Supplemental Security Income

Apply for SSI

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a governmental program in which payments are made to a child or adult who has a disability, as well as a limited income. It gives a person money to cover the basic needs of food, shelter and clothing. The benefit amount is based on the individual's income, how many live in the household, and where the person resides.

It can also provide eligibility for food stamps, and may sometimes serve as that application, as well as one for the SSI. Prior work experience is not a criterion for SSI. Benefits are determined by need rather than time worked, or how much money was previously paid into the program. SSI benefits go only to the person applying, and not to his or her survivors or other family members.

If you are approved for these benefits, they may provide you with the financial stability you need as a disabled individual, as there is no time limit as to how long you may receive these benefits. There are two programs Social Security offers for the disabled to obtain benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and SSI. If you believe you need Social Security Disability, a knowledgeable Loveland Social Security disability lawyer from Busch Law Offices can help you obtain this needed assistance.

The SSI Approval Process

As is common when being involved with a government agency, the process for gaining Supplemental Security benefits can be a confusing and complicated one. If you try to navigate the process on your own, you may put the approval of your application in danger, jeopardizing the receipt of benefits you so badly need.

Many of these claims are denied at the Initial Claim and Reconsideration level, and end up being heard by an Administrative Law Judge. It is crucial that you work with a skilled attorney who can represent you at this hearing, to increase your chance of success. Though we cannot guarantee a successful outcome, when there is so much at stake you owe it to yourself to have the best opportunity you can to obtain the benefits you are entitled to.
